Voices

As promised, I did the podcast interview yesterday with Ambib of Ambivalent Imbroligio.  For those of you who are just dying to hear my voice (yes, I do understand that my classmates are NOT in this category; they wish I would shut up already!) you may do so on Ambib's blog.  We had fun chatting and I introduced him to blow jobs (some people just live such sheltered lives).  He actually invited me to do it again (interview!) where we talk about my transition.  I'm sure we'll do that sometime.  So, go listen, and thank Ambib for being such an awesome force in the blogosphere!

As a side note, I might just mention that voices are an interesting area of existence for trans people.  If you're FTM (female to male) just beginning on testosterone your voice of course is high pitched (and your face is smooth) so you sound (and look) like a pre-teen boy, even if you're 30.  Eventually, the "T" will work it's magic and you go through voice puberty (the cracking and deepening of your voice) and soon your voice is naturally in a deeper register.  If you're MTF, on the other hand, taking Estrogen does NOT shorten your vocal cords and give you a higher pitched voice, so you have to find a way to create it for yourself.  Not everyone does and people find different ways of dealing with it.  Some, like one of my great friends, just don't try and cause no end of double-takes!  I try, though my voice sometimes still cracks and I find myself speaking in baritone.
